It appears as though former West Ham United legend, Paolo di Canio, is in no mood to tolerate the alleged betting irregularities from Newcastle’s Sandro Tonali and others.
The betting scandal has enveloped Italian football over the last couple of weeks, and di Canio has clearly had enough of it.
It should be remembered of course that during his own playing days, di Canio was fastidious about every aspect of his professional life.
From the food he ate to his training regime, and everything in between, it all had to be spot on for the now 55-year-old to give his best.
It’s perhaps with that in mind that the Italian has no sympathy whatsoever with his fellow countrymen.
“Popi (director of Sky Calcio Club), give me a fixed camera,” he said on Sky Italia’s Calcio Club show, per Calciomercato.
“You are idiots! If you bet on football you’re empty, you’re stupid. There’s no need to justify those who bet.”
Many might consider his words to be overly harsh to players that clearly need help rather than ridicule, however, Di Canio has always spoken his mind and been direct rather than speaking behind people’s backs.
It’s that type of honesty that has seen him earn as many enemies as it has friends.
Perhaps, Sandio Tonali and Juventus’ Nicolo Fagioli might sit up and take notice of such a broadside, as harsh words are sometimes needed in order to get a situation changed.
