Paris Saint-Germain gave fans their first look at what the team will look like without Kylian Mbappé with the release of the club’s new home kit for the 2024-25 season.

With their Champions League campaign over and their star man all but set to join Real Madrid this summer on a free transfer, PSG are busy prepping for life beyond Mbappé with a smart new primary strip forming part of their ongoing reshuffle.

Rising star Warren Zaïre-Emery, the 18-year-old who recently signed a new contract with PSG, is one of the stars chosen to model the kit.

After experimenting with unconventional designs in recent years, the 2024-25 home shirt sticks fairly close to the archetypal PSG home jersey, with the core elements being a deep blue base and the Parisians’ famous red and white “Hechter” stripe running vertically through the centre.

However, on closer inspection the stripe has been slightly distressed to create a faux-brushstroke effect, which the club suggests serves as a homage to the contemporary urban art scene in Paris and its suburbs.

The return of the classic Hechter stripe to the home kit also comes after PSG received complaints from fan groups, who had grown increasingly perturbed after being foisted with several years of nonconformist designs. The last appearance of the traditional red stripe came with the 2020-21 kit.

The stripe then disappeared altogether in 2021-22 (being relocated to the sleeve cuffs), before undergoing consecutive “overhauls” in 2022-23 (a colour reverse) and 2023-24 (offset down the flank of the torso), much to the chagrin of many fans.
