The finance minister said concerted efforts would be made to fulfill the commitments under the AP Reorganisation Act as she allocated Rs 26,000 crore for highways in Bihar
Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman, presenting the Union Budget 2024-25 on Tuesday, announced special packages for Andhra Pradesh and Bihar in a nod to demands made by allies JD(U) and TDP.
Speaking in Parliament, Sitharaman said: “We will formulate a plan — Purvodaya — for the development of the eastern region of the country. Gaya will be an industrial node on the Amritsar-Kolkata corridor. Rs 26,000 crore will be allocated for highways in Bihar. The request of Bihar for multilateral development will be expediated.”
She added: “Rs 15000 crore will be arranged, with additional amounts in future years. The government is fully committed towards it. New airports, medical colleges, and sports infra will be developed in Bihar.”
ANDHRA PRADESH
The finance minister said concerted efforts would be made to fulfill the commitments under the AP Reorganisation Act. “Rs 15,000 crore will be arranged in the current FY to develop Andhra Pradesh’s capital. Grants for backward regions will be provided as per the AP Reorganisation Act,” she said, giving the green signal to Andhra chief minister Chandrababu Naidu’s wish list.
