The Lahore High Court’s Rawalpindi bench on Tuesday ordered the regional police officer (RPO) to immediately recover Sheikh Rasheed and submit a report in court within a week.
Former interior minister and Awami Muslim League (AML) head Sheikh Rasheed was arrested from his Rawalpindi residence last week.
Justice Sadaqat Ali Khan, from the Rawalpindi bench of LHC, heard the case of the Awami Muslim League (AML) chief and reprimanded Regional Police Officer (RPO) Syed Khurram Ali for failing to recover the veteran politician.
“In failing to do so, strict action will be taken against the force,” the LHC judge remarked.
The RPO sought one more week from the court, which the court granted.
The plea
Awami Muslim League chief Sheikh Rasheed on Monday moved Lahore High Court (LHC) against his arrest.
Sheikh Rasheed filed a plea through his lawyers Sardar Razzak and Sardar Shehbaz. The IG Punjab, RPO, CCPO Rawalpindi and SSP Operations have been made respondents in the case.
The plea stated that Punjab police arrested him [Sheikh Rasheed] without arrest warrants and is kept at an ‘undisclosed’ place. There is no case against the applicant, nor any investigation was underway, the plea stated.
