Around 2,000 guests have been invited to the coronation ceremony next month at Westminster Abbey. To conclude the weekend, members of the royal family are set to appear together on the Buckingham Palace balcony, but it is unclear whether Harry will take part.

In January 2020, Harry and Meghan announced they would “step back” from their roles as senior members of the royal family, and they moved to their new home base of Southern California. They’ve since talked about their relationship and exit from royal life, and taken aim at the palace, in different storytelling forms.

The two were the subject of a six-episode Netflix docuseries, “Harry & Meghan,” part of a reported multimillion-dollar deal with the media company, which saw them sit for interviews in which they opened up about their struggles as royals under the eye of the tabloid press. He accuses his father and brother Prince William, now heir to the throne, of allowing their staff to proactively leak negative stories to the media and conspire against the pair. Meghan said the negative press coverage and social media threats made her contemplate suicide.

Things became more tense after Harry released his memoir, “Spare,” which gave further insight into internal royal turmoil and which the media has described as a flamethrower and bridge-burner. He describes family backstabbing, jealousy and dysfunction.

In one scene, Harry describes a kitchen altercation between him and his brother. Harry wrote that William called Meghan “difficult,” “rude” and “abrasive” and that William physically attacked him.

He told a TV interviewer ahead of the launch that he wants to be “a family” and “not an institution.” He said the royal family has shown “no willingness to reconcile.”

Last month, the couple were asked to “vacate” the royal residence that the late Queen Elizabeth had gifted them for their use.

Harry is involved in ongoing legal battles with the British media, including being part of a small group of high-profile figures taking on the media giant that includes popular tabloid the Daily Mail in a lawsuit over alleged phone-tapping and misuse of private information. He appeared in person at a hearing last month.
